Edmonds Bournvita Biscuits
Edmonds Bournvita Biscuits ~ 1971 Cookbook
Bournvita Biscuits. When I first mentioned them in the Edmonds cookbook Facebook group, the response was, “Wow”, “have not had them for years”, “can you still get Bournvita?”
And there was the problem. I did not know if you could get it at all.
According to Wikipedia, Bournvita was discontinued in the UK market in 2008. The drink was named by Cadbury, which was derived from Bournville, the model village which is the site of the Cadbury factory (Bourn + Vita). It was first sold in 1949.
The only place that I knew I could get it from in Austraila was the Indian food stores.
It has even been featured Bangladeshi science fiction film Beder Meye Josna and its sequel Himel, as the preferred health drink of the protagonist, a superhero, who swears by it. And more films, see Wikipedia for more info.
This recipe is from my 1971 Edmonds cookbook. It is not in any of my later cookbooks. I am unsure of what year they took it out of the cookbook, do you know?
It was a very popular drink in New Zealand many years ago. Hence why there is a recipe for biscuits made with Bournvita. You could substitute Bournvita with Horlicks or Milo, but the taste would not be the same, and you would lose the authenticity of the recipe.
The recipe is a fast and easy one, so if you are looking for something to p
ut together is a hurry, this is the one for you.
I made two batches for the blog, and they had a very fleeting life in the biscuit tin. So much so, that I will be making more. They can be frozen, that is if they last long enough.
Please join us on facebook and post your photos. And don’t forget to check the Bakeandcut facebook page for daily updates.
Tell me when was the last time that you had Bournvita?
Happy baking!

Hi, I have been making these for years and have substituted bornvita for chocolate chips to make a yummy chocolate chip cookie.
