Macaroni Cheese – Made In The Mycook Premium
Macaroni and cheese — also called “mac and cheese” or “cheese macaroni”,”macaroni pie””macaroni cheese” or “easy mac” is a dish consisting of cooked macaroni pasta and cheese. Most commonly Cheddar cheese, though it can also incorporate other ingredients, such as breadcrumbs, meat and vegetables.
Traditional macaroni and cheese is a casserole baked in the oven; however, it may be prepared in a saucepan on top of the stove or using a packaged mix.
And then there is my way, made in the Mycook, simple and easy and NOT out of a packet. Preservative and additive free.
I could not help myself when I was last in a supermarket; I had to photograph the ingredients list of an easy mac packet.
Let’s pull that list apart.
Maltodextrin is sort of a sugar. Maltodextrin is used as an inexpensive additive to thicken food products. It is also used as a filler in sugar substitutes and other products. So why do you need it to thicken when you have flour in the sauce?
Filler in sugar, so lets put more sugar into the sugar.
Next comes some more thickener, gee how thick is this stuff?
Then come the vegetable oil, what type of oil is anyone’s guess.
Salt.
Natural flavour, now that could be anything and why do you need to add a “natural” flavour, has the food got no flavour already? Check this link. This personally scares me, I avoid all food that has it in it.
Sugar, like you need sugar in macaroni cheese? I think not. Maybe it’s to make the unnatural stuff taste better.
Mineral salt, but it already has salt in it. So why do you need more?
Emulsifier, Mono- and diglycerides of fatty acids. Needed or not? Leave that up to you to make up your mind on.
Annatto (colour) food already has colour, and if you want some more colour add in some turmeric. This is another one I avoid.
I do not like eating all this stuff. Make it fresh and there is no need for it.
An insulated is a handy container to have to put the cooked pasta into while making the cheese sauce. They are available at most Asians/Indian stores or online.
I personally like to grate my nutmeg fresh. There is something just so tantalising about the smell of freshly grated nutmeg.
You would think that pasta gets chopped up while cooking in the Mycook, but thanks to the slow speed it can run at; it does not. It cooks spaghetti exceptionally well. I love watching that cook.
